This is Jay.
I met him a couple years ago when he got involved on the production team here at Crossroads.(If it's video and at Crossroads, Jay probably did it or had something to do with it).... He has since become one of my closest friends. This past year Jay decided to follow the dreams God put in him and left his full time job and went back to school to learn the art of film and video production. Last month he released his first short film The Waiting Line. Its good..... Really Good......Not good for a church guy good..... REALLY GOOD! Jay won an award for it and got a big chunk of change to spend all summer producing another short. Jay Rocks. The Waiting Line is also being used as an opener for a big time movie release this summer. Jay has already worked on a NOOMA film and has been to both Vancouver and LA to hang out at various movie type places (he won't brag on himself so I will) As soon as Jay lets me, I'll post it or point to his short. Oh yea, I got to do part of the soundtrack, which was both an honor and very cool experience.
I'm not sure what it is about corporations that make them think that any kind of artistic content is not worth compensating (actually I do know what it is, I just don't agree with it)...in support of the writers strike here is a killer promotion by some of the folks from the office (the best written promotion on tv today).
I think I've blogged on this before but.. If you do a lot of scriptwriting for your media productions than Celtx is pretty sweet program. It's free and there is web based collaboration. Basically Celtx is a fully integrated solution for media pre-production and collaboration. They just did a pretty cool update including:
A new Audio play editor has been added that can be used to create standardized radio scripts or podcasts.
A new dual column-AV editor supports documentary filmmaking, the creation of music videos and the making of general AV projects.
I've been playing with the idea of using Visuals in Worship in a more interactive freestyle/VJ style way for the last year. I just haven't put all the parts together yet. I have been playing with Union by Livid which is very cool. They just released Cell which is a scaled down VJ tool that may just do the trick for what I have in my head. If your a VJ for Worship or other environments it may be worth a look.
Jesus Camp. Watched it yesterday. Fascinating, disturbing, at times real and truthful. Agreed with some of it, disagreed with a whole lot of it.Caused me to ask a whole lot of questions. Mostly... What about Love?
Great article on the Daybreak church site. Their Fizz Conference is coming up and Mark Courtney has a killer article for download from last years conference called The Way of Wonder. If you work in a creative enviroment in a church go get it here.
