Twice a year at Crossroads we do True Crossroads Stories. We shoot and edit people's stories of how they are living out their relationships with God. Sunday night the crew spent the evening shooting in our "video space" that was graciously lent to us by my wife's boss. Jason Ely is our head video guy at Crossroads and he is pouring what he knows into two younger dudes named Zach and Scott.( who always blow me away with their creativity and skills.) The greatest thing about hanging out with the younger generation is that risk is no issue with them, they will take any chance to do something cool and a lot of times what might be perceived as a mistake by some is turned into art by them. I love to sit back and watch these guys do their thing. Its like poetry in motion. If your in the area on the 24th of February come by, cuz these stories...man... God is changing lives.
( ps the purple on the green screen is from some kids fingerpainting the night before.. we weren't trying a new effect!)
Well one thing that is constant in a portable church environment is change. This last weekend we moved all of our Kids Environments all the across the complex we are in and into new spaces. Due to some great pre - planning involving the leaders in that area ( Chuck, Kyle, Brian and Lee) and the help of some amazing volunteers that day ( Cindy, Marv, Matt, Jessica, Annette and Matt) we were able to make the transition pretty smoothly. I purchased a PA Rack for the new Kid Crossing K-5 and Kid Fusion Space but we are going to need to do some continued up grades in the pa system in their as its way under powered for a room that size and make up. ( We knew that going in but due to budget and time we had to make the move anyway)
So whats the point?
If your moving spaces: Plan Plan Plan... due to lots of conversations with lots of people and planning for everything that could go wrong we made the transition without nary a hiccup in the technology areas
.
These two brothers are the next Cohen brothers...or maybe Wakowski brothers. ..or some kinda bruthas....
I have been a musician for most of life and have had the privilege of getting to work with some great artists. One of the skills you need as a musician is the ability to listen. Yet I'm always surprised at how many musicians have never really learned how to listen... sure they learn their part.. but in context they have never acquired the discipline of listening to the other players around them..music is a language and you have to be able to talk in terms of pitch, dynamic, arrangement.. etc... ever been around a loud talker who never shuts up? Thats kind of what its like to play with someone who doesn't listen to whats going on around them. One of the things we have been working on is listening to each other and speaking the language of music, one of the ways you can do that is by taking away other forms of stimulus.. so today I made the band practice with blindfolds on...the positive change was immediate because your forced to...listen... try it sometime, its harder than it looks (no pun intended) or sounds...
Brian may kill for saying anything but I am very excited. We are getting very close to rolling out our new website.. and it is going to be slamming! Its going to be a great tool for our community in reaching people for God and helping them on their journey. So give Brian and his web team a hug (Ben,Linda,Deb, Doug with input from Jonathon)... a big hug when you see em.
I have blogged on TED before. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader. The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes). Since its an invite only conference for 1000 people and costs $6000 to go to.. I don't think Ill be making it this year.. anyway I say all that to say this. I watch a documentary tonight on the making of TED. It was very cool and very much worth the watch... Here was my favorite quote from it...
..how far you go has nothing to do with your resources...but everything to do with your resourcefulness.
Watched this last night. A really well done documentary on the genocide in Darfur.(Is it possible to do a well done documentary on genocide?) anyway..... Gave a whole new meaning to this verse. Why do we spend so much time killing each other? ( Yea I know.. Sin, ...its a rhetorical question). After reading the book Not on our Watch and seeing this movie.... well I'm not a hugely political person but I've actually taken a step and written to my Senator and the White House to lobby for action in light of whats going in Sudan and Darfur. Typically I can't stand the attitude of people that do that (sorry no offense) , often times I wonder how effective such measures actually are , people are being slaughtered.. I feel like I needed to do something. I'll continue to probe and see what else I can personally do.I'm praying that we as humans can get past the whole slaughtering each other (physically, emotional, financially, spiritually) because of who we happen to be born as and or some sort of personal gain.
